Survivor: Island of the Idols

39 days, 20 players, 1 Survivor!

Greetings and salutations true believers! For today we will briefly discuss the premiere of Survivor.

Now before I go too far let me acknowledge something; I am a true, die-hard Survivor junkie. I have been watching since day one and I just cannot stop. We are into season 39 and it still intrigues me. Obviously there are some seasons I like more than others. I will say I did not like the Redemption Island twist last season. I still believe that once you are voted out you are finished. The sight of Jeff snuffing the torch should be your end on the show.

Elizabeth
Well this season that appears to be the case. The cast, at first glance, appears to be stellar. I have already chosen a few favorites and I have noticed that no one has come across, at least yet, as the clear villain.

While I like the idea of a boot camp, I cannot and will not ever get over the two big ass statues of Boston Rob and Sandra at the Island of the Idols. They are terrifying to say the least. Frankly I am sick of Boston Rob, but he is a master of the game. Still, I wonder how much Amber enjoys being left at home with their four daughters. In any case, he is there and we will see how this plays out.

One thing very noticeable this season was the absence of Jeff at the marooning of the survivors. There was no jumping off the boat to grab supplies and swim to the beach or anything like that. No, instead, Jeff calmly stood on the side of a helicopter (my man is the epitome of cool) and the cast just got dropped off sort of unceremoniously and left to figure things out on the beach. But they did figure it out and built shelters, got water and tried to find some food as well.
Elaine

Not knowing exactly what the Island of the Idols was going to entail, Elizabeth was sent there via a blind draw from a sack. I still like the old way of having the winning tribe from the challenge choose the person, but they again failed to ask me. She made a dreadful mistake to go up against Boston Rob in a fire making challenge for a chance to win an immunity idol. At that point, even though she had no idea what was going on back at camp, she probably did not need an idol. She lost, naturally, and ended up losing her vote at tribal council. That did not matter either.

Missy
For the record I think this will be an outstanding season and I really hope I am correct. I absolutely love Elaine. She is funny. Tom is fantastic and I do like Elizabeth as well, though I am not sure her lie about the Island of the Idols will go over too well once the others realize what is really going on over there. But if I am going to pick someone after just one episode as my choice to win it all, I am going with Missy. Her story about surviving a brain tumor, not being able to walk and almost dying is not only emotional, but proves to me that she is a fighter and will do whatever it takes to win. Plus she wants to be the "Soul" Survivor, which is pretty awesome too.

Enjoy the season my friends!
