Survivor Caramoan: Filipino Jesus or Filipino Gollum

Image
Our episode began with the dysfunctional Gota tribe returning to camp after another testy tribal council. Somehow, Shamar was still in the tribe and boy oh boy was Eddie pissed that his tribe voted off Hope. Eddie said “it’s mindboggling to me that we got rid of Hope tonight. She was the prettiest one here”. I’m with you on this one Eddie. How they can keep that lazy brute Shamar and get rid of Hope is beyond normal comprehension. Seriously, if I am stuck on an island for up to 39 days I want the prettiest people around me. But alas, I am not playing the game. Reynold went on a bit of a tirade as well since he had been blatantly lied to by Laura and apparently he had not realized that being lied to was a time honored Survivor tradition. Over at Bikal it was all unicorns and flowers as Phillip continued enshrining tribe mates into his secret “stealth R us” alliance. Frankly I am having trouble remembering what everyone’s secret name is, but it hardly matters. An...

Sir Griffin's Look at the Fall Schedule: Fox

Image
We have finally reached the end of our fall previews with a look at the offerings from Fox.  Now Foxx is only giving us three new shows this fall followed by two midseason programs.  Of the new fall series I can tell you that I have seen the pilot episodes for them all and two of them are brilliant.  However, before I get to those quality shows I want to start with what may be the biggest piece of crap this fall.  The Mob Doctor – Avid readers know that there are two TV genres that I despise: medical dramas and gangster shows.  This one hour drama unsuccessfully combines them into one dull and unwatchable mess.  Jordana Spiro (My Boys) stars as Dr. Grace Devlin, a brilliant surgeon in Chicago who puts herself, her friends and her loved ones in jeopardy due to a family debt owed to the mob.  Now if Dr. Devlin put her family and friends on Jeopardy to battle an evil Alex Trebek this show might have been interesting for a moment.  In...

Sir Griffin's Look at the Fall Schedule: NBC

Image
As we all know Sir Griffin is way behind in his fall TV previews, but there is no need to complain.  I will, eventually, get all of them finished.  I realize that some shows may have already been canceled by the time I get this all done, but as always, Sir Griffin will do his best.  We’re taking a look today at NBC and fortunately for you I have already seen several of these shows so I can give some definitive opinions.  I am going to start with the four shows in which I have already seen the pilot.  Go On – Matthew Perry returns with another attempt to headline his own show.  And while I enjoyed Mr. Sunshine, I can tell you that this show is substantially better.  Perry plays sportscaster Ryan King, a widower who has joined a support group to help him cope with the loss of his wife.  I know it does not sound like a particularly funny topic, but I can tell you that it is very humorous.  I loved the pilot and particularly enjoye...

Sir Griffin's Look at the Fall Schedule: CBS

Image
It is time for Sir Griffin to take a look at the shows that will be offered by the CBS television network.  My apologies for taking so long in my fall previews, but I am doing my best and hopefully will have it all said and done before the new shows begin.  But even if I do not you really can’t complain because I do this for free for your pleasure.  So let’s begin our look at CBS with Partners –   From the creators of Will & Grace comes a show about two men; one gay and one straight.  They have been friends since childhood and are now business partners and still best of friends.  The show delves into their lives as they both begin new relationships.  I have to say that I was a huge Will & Grace fan and the preview for this show indicates I will love this one as well.  It looks funny and appears to have the same wacky charm/  Plus, there is a dog named Elphaba and you can never go wrong there.  The show stars David Krumholt...

Survivor: South Pacific Finale

Image
Survivor: South Pacific has come to an end and it was a great season.  I have to start, however, by pointing out that I was absolutely correct in my prediction of Sophie being the winner.   Brandon  arrived at RI and promptly told Ozzy,   in not so many words, that he was a complete idiot for giving his immunity to Albert.  This was followed by the final RI duel in which Brandon and Ozzy had to hold onto their poles as long as possible.  Wait, that sounds wrong.  Having already seen Ozzy climb palm trees it was obvious that he would be victorious and Brandon would be sent to the jury.  Although Brandon made a game of it, his toes eventually gave out and he was a goner.  Ozzy, was back in the game and not exactly welcomed.  Ozzy, knowing he was going to be voted out immediately had to win immunity, but at the same time try and convince Coach that he was more worthy of keeping around until the end if the dragon slayer wanted a ...

Survivor: South Pacific: The Manson Family Christmas

Image
After taking a week off for Thanksgiving, Survivor returned with a bang last night.  I learned that Cowboy Guy has a name, Rick, and that he can actually speak.  Seriously, has he been sitting down and watching this with his family and having to say something like “I was there! Really!” Well now they finally have proof.  I also learned that I have a really dirty mind as many things that were spoken made me giggle like a kid.  But, as usual, we will start at the beginning.  Cochran made a charming comment that he felt like he was in league with the Manson Family and he was afraid he was Sharon Tate.  Then he immediately grossed everyone out by telling us a story of how he made phony phone calls as a kid, but was never very good at it.  Cochran said he used to call girls and say “I really want to swap sperm with you.”  Apparently law is the right profession for Cochran as anything in the medical field seems completely out of the questi...

Survivor: South Pacific: The Cult of Coach

Image
Why the producers of Survivor insist on subjecting us to Redemption Island I have no idea.  For now we are stuck with Jim whining about their lament, Keith standing around looking stupid and Ozzy desperately trying not to say I told you so while simultaneously actually saying I told you so.  Ozzy is both a moron and an oxymoron.  As Te Tuna returned to camp, Coach made a point of telling Whitney & Dawn that they had nothing to worry about and he was worried about Albert plotting something against him.  Now why Coach chose to lie to them I had no idea.  Seriously, he had been saying ever since the merge that they would be picking off the old Savaii one by one so why did they have nothing to worry about?  I’ll give Whitney credit, for once, because she noted that most of Upolu would never get to the finals with Coach.  She could not believe how “smart people could be so stupid”.  This coming from a girl that not only sings country...

Survivor: South Pacific: Get on your Knees

Image
I finally have it figured out.  I know why there are tsunamis, earthquakes, teabaggers and other natural disasters.  I know why there is cancer, muscular dystrophy, Herman Cain and other diseases.  It’s because God does not care about those things as he/she is all consumed with Survivor.  God cannot be bothered with starvation and poverty because he/she loves listening to Coach tell him/her that he is not worthy.  (On a side note is it okay for God to call Coach Benjamin?  Just asking.)  God has to watch Survivor as it has now become a weekly prayer meeting for the Upolu tribe.  God must really love game shows set in tropical climates.  I’m sorry, but if God is truly interested in whether or not Upolu wins a challenge then we have some serious issues upstairs.  More on this insanity later. Our episode begins right off with Christine and the lovely Mikayla at the Redemption Island challenge.  Each contestant had to take...

Survivor: South Pacific: Let's Give Her a Hug

Image
I am really sleepy today so I am warning you now with peace and love that this entry may not be up to normal standards.  Based on my exhaustion today’s entry could be shorter than usual, really bad or both.  And that’s a shame because last night’s episode was a doozy. But before we get to that I just want to mention the passing of Steve Jobs.  Why a brilliant man such as that was taken at such an early age I will never know.  I think it is just proof that God hates America.  If not, why  is Steve Jobs dead, but we're still stuck with morons like Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry?  There is no justice in the world. We started out Jim speaking to Cochran about stirring things up a bit.  Seems that Elyse and Ozzy have a bond and we know how dangerous couples can be on the show.  The sight of Elyse snuggling Ozzy in a hammock disgusted me.  Not as much as when Elyse asked if Ozzy if the rest of his family was as outdo...

Survivor: South Pacific

Image
Yes my friends, Sir Griffin has returned.  After a lengthy holiday both home and abroad Sir Griffin is back to talk with you about his favorite things: TV & food.  Of course, I did see plenty of films this summer as well so do not hesitate to ask my opinion on any of the summer blockbusters.  But, we are here today because we are only a few weeks away from the fall TV season and my favorite show, Survivor.  I have been inundated with requests to continue my Survivor blog this season as opposed to one vote against it thus the majority wins and I will continue. Survivor South Pacific will be the 23rd season of this show and will premiere on September 14th.  For those of you with a curiosity streak I can tell you that it was filmed in Samoa from May 30th – July 7th of this year.  It is always amazing to me that the producers are able to keep the secrets of the show under wraps until the winner is revealed in December. This season, like...
