Sir Griffin's Look at the Fall TV Schedule: ABC Part 2

Image
Okay, let's pick up with the shows that will be on in late fall/mid season, shall we? Apartment 23:  A quirky little comedy in which James Van Der Beek plays himself is interesting enough, but throw in the deliciously sexy Dreama Walker and the very attractive and talented Krysten Ritter and you have the makings of a good comedy.  Walker plays a barista named June looking for a place to live.  She ends up moving in with Chloe (Ritter) a con artist who rips off June as soon as she moves in.  As it turns out, June is adept at the con as well.  It's kind of like an Odd Couple remake, but with sexy women trying to outdo each other.  Chances of me watching?  Very good. Apartment 23 Good Christian Belles:   This snoozefest is about a woman named Amanda (Leslie Bibb) who was a bitch in high school now returning to her home town 20 years later after a divorce.  As it turns out Amanda is nice now, but everyone else is a bitch.  Do they welcome her back or get their revenge?  Who

Sir Griffin's Look at the Fall TV Schedule: ABC Part 1

Last week the networks announced their new shows for the fall schedule.  As is the norm, very few of these shows will last beyond their first season, but yet the networks announce them will all the press and fanfare possible.  I have decided  that I would take a look at each network's new offerings and share my thoughts about these news shows with you.  Now in all cases I have not seen any of these shows and I am basing my opinions on what I have read thus far and the little preview snippets that the networks released.  When the fall comes and I have actually seen these shows my opinion could certainly change.  I have also decided to devote a page to each network and to go alphabetically.  Thus we begin with ABC. Once Upon a Time Last Man Standing:   A new sitcom starring Tim Allen.  Now, Tim Allen had another sitcom on ABC that ran for many years called Home Improvement.  I saw exactly one episode of that show and I hated it.  I have seen approximately one minute and 27 seco

Angie's Restaurant

Image
This past weekend we decided to go out for breakfast before our trip to the beach.  Where to go is always the question, but that question was quickly answered by Lady Gianna: Angie’s.  Conveniently located in downtown Clearwater, Angie’s Restaurant is a small diner with big meals.  Angie’s has been around since the 1960’s and I think only the prices have changed.  It is a very quaint place where you have the choice of dining at the counter or in a booth.  On this particular day we chose a booth.  There are essentially three things you can count on when you visit Angie’s: 1. Low prices 2. Delicious food 3. Excellent service from a woman that will probably call you “Hon” The coffee there is quite delicious as diner coffee often is, but this blend was outstanding.  In fact I would put their coffee in competition with any of the major coffee producing stores in town.  The coffee is not bitter and does not have that burnt taste that bugs me so much; it was smooth.  I kno

Survivor Redemption Island: Season Finale

Image
It’s not particularly difficult to sum up this season of Survivor. It was Rob’s game from the beginning. While Russell came in with a giant target on his back and was instantly hated by most everyone, Rob came in like the beloved hero and savior and walked away with it all. I can’t say I wanted Rob to win, but if you go by who played the best then Rob was the obvious choice. On Redemption Island we had our inhabitants preparing for their final challenge to get back into the game while at the same time reminiscing about their days on RI. You’d think it was the Ritz the way they were talking about it. Even Matt had learned to love it after spending a record 29 days out there. I guess Jesus told him he’d better love it. The final challenge in the RI arena was one of balance and endurance. Matt, Grant, Mike and Andrea had to use a foot to balance an urn on the end of a board. Kind of like holding a seesaw level for an extended period of time. Unfortunately for Matt all that ti

Survivor Redemption Island: Put Your Hand on Your Handle

We are now dangerously close to the end of another season of Survivor, yet Phillip is still bitching and complaining about rice.  If I did not know any better I would swear that rice is like kryptonite to Phillip.  One can only imagine the problems he has when ordering Chinese take-out.  But we’ll get to that in more detail in a little while because we first must start at the beginning. As Murlonio returned to camp Ashley & Natalie were happy that they were the last two girls.  Yes, but you are still outnumbered and you did not need to be.  You had Andrea and could have taken over the game leaving three girls still in the game, but you instead chose to blindly follow Rob and follow his every command.  After Ashley spoke with Natalie about staying together Natalie ran right to Rob and confessed everything.  Rob told her to just keep up appearances and keep doing what he says.  Like I have said before, Rob is the master and is playing a great game.  Rob’s only fear, and

O'Keefe's Family Tavern & Grill

Every year I ask Lady Gianna where she would like to go for Mother’s Day and every year it’s the same answer.  “Surprise me.”  Having already heard that this year I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call from her last Thursday telling me moms eat free at O’Keefe’s Tavern in Clearwater.  O’Keefe’s is a great Irish place near the hospital in Clearwater that has been in business for 50 years.  If this was Lady Gianna’s choice then O’Keefe’s it would be! I called for a reservation and was able to obtain one without any difficulty.  Being that it was Thursday I did not take this as a good sign.  Sure, we had a table reserved, but why was no one else going there?  Having not been there in a few years I wondered if things had gone sour, so when we arrived and saw a full parking lot I actually felt relieved.  We walked in and were immediately seated in a lovely booth.  (On the way to the booth we passed a couple that had just been served an order of chili cheese fries and I w

Survivor Redemption Island: Loved Ones from Home

I have never been particularly found of things that are schmaltzy or sappy and thus I have never been a fan of the loved ones from home episodes of Survivor.  Don’t get me wrong I still love the show, but I could certainly do without parents, siblings and friends showing up.  I think that the time at camp needs to remain more secretive.  If you are on the show or working there you get to see it.  If not, it’s off limits.  But, it is what it is and because of that I do what I do, whatever that is.  Capiche?  Our story began with some male bonding out on Redemption Island.  Surprised to see Steve show up immediately after Ralph, he was met with great adulation.  Steve looked like a beaten man.  He had been through the trials of Survivor and was about as enthusiastic as a rock.  I got the feeling he just wanted to leave.  Poor Steve. The Ometepe Six are back at camp too and celebrating their domination of Zapatera.  Unfortunately it all starts to sink in that it is now ju
