TV and Burgers

Hey kids, The 91st Annual Academy Awards have come and gone. Just like this years Super Bowl, I was bored and disappointed. Dammit Academy, a host is desperately needed and you just bucked the mummy train on this one.  Did that even make sense? No, well neither did most of this night. I am not going over the whole thing, however a few of the highlights. While I was really looking forward to Queen opening the show with a guy I had never heard of before named Adam Lambert, it really was a disappointment. Why not just have Rami Malek up there doing his Freddie Mercury imitation? It was lackluster and not a great start to the night. Then three of my favorite women, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler and did a very funny yet all too brief routine about how there is not a host. Hello Academy? The 86th Annual Academy Awards have come and gone and now that I have had a little time to digest what I saw I am ready to share my thoughts with you.  First of all I want to know if I am the only heterosexual man in America that sits with his beautiful wife to watch all the stars arrive and then critique the gowns, hair and shoes of the women as they walk the red carpet.  Anyone?  No, just me?  Oh well, I feel bad for the rest of you.  I tuned in to the TV Guide Network to watch the arrivals because that evil robot Seacrest was on E and there was no way I could sit through that.  I did like Nancy O’Dell’s gown and I thought that Ireland Baldwin looked nice as well, although she has some really dumbass tattoos and the way she would pop up and then disappear was very odd.  I only wish Nancy would have allowed some of the stars to actually answer her questions.  She would ask and when they would start to answer she would pull the mic...

It is that time of year again my friends and I know I am running a little late again this year, but you will all get over it quickly.  You must because you have no choice.  This year, like we probably did last year, we start with ABC. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. : My friends I am here to tell you that I cannot remember a time when I was so excited about a fall TV show.  We all know that I love Marvel and that superhero movies are among my favorites.  We also know that I consider Joss Whedon to be a genius.  When you combine those things you not only get The Avengers, but an awesome looking TV show to boot.  Phil Coulson is the main character and if you have seen any of the Marvel films you probably know exactly who he is.  The plot is simple; Agent Coulson puts together a team to handle strange cases and find new superheroes in the world.  The casting looks to be terrific with Ming-Na Wen (Mulan) as pilot Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as computer hack...

As I began to write my annual fall TV previews I thought that it might be fun to look back at this past season and take a closer look as to what worked for me and what did not.  My tastes do not always match up with the masses and some shows I thought should have been successful were canceled while others I did not like got the call for a second season.  Some shows just outright disappointed me.  And with that in mind we shall start with… Revolution – No network show disappointed me more than this one.  It started out okay and it just went downhill from there.  Due to my appreciation and respect for JJ Abrams I hung in there all season, but I will not be back for Season 2.  I was okay with the implausible plot, but the fact that so many people had these secrets and refused to answer questions when asked just bugged the crap out of me.  Plus it really annoyed me that it turns out a lack of power turned everyone violent.  Why could ...

I know what you’re thinking because I am pretty much thinking the same thing; how can Sir Griffin hate a show that he’s never even seen?  That’s simply ridiculous, correct?  Well as ridiculous as it sounds and as ridiculous as the reality of it is, it’s true.  There are TV shows that, for one reason or another, I simply hate.  Now I am not talking about ridiculous reality shows that follow around a family or hang out at a business because I should never have to watch Honey Boo-Boo, Ducky Dynasty, Splash or anything involving a Kardashian to know that it is a piece of crap.  No, I am sticking strictly with scripted shows today because if I were to get involved with “reality” shows the list would be almost endless.  Now I don’t hate every show that I have never seen.  I have never seen Revenge, but I don’t hate it.  Same goes for The Good Wife, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries and several others.  It’s just that some shows just hi...

I’d like to start this out by apologizing to you, my loyal readers. Sir Griffin has been ill and thus has been in no mood to write his annual Oscar review. Despite my illness I did manage to watch all of the red carpet arrivals and the entire show from beginning to end. I do this not only for myself, but for all of you as well and I do hope you appreciate and enjoy it. First I want to tell you that I watched the Red Carpet arrivals on TV Guide Network. It took me about 10-15 minutes to find that channel, but I found it just before they came on the air. I cannot and will not watch the coverage on E! as long as they continue to put that sorry sack of crap Ryan Seacrest on the air. I absolutely refuse to watch anything with him in it. Thus I was subjected to some guy I had never heard of, Chris Harrison. He was okay, but he seemed like he was confused with his questions and comments at times. I am a dedicated television viewer. If I like a program I will often stay with a program from beginning to end. However, there are times when I just have to say goodbye to shows that I once loved. Sometimes it is easy to do. Take Heroes for an example. It had a spectacular first season that was fun and inventive. Season two was a completely different story. I stuck with it for about half of season two and then I had enough and let it go. It was off my DVR for good and I was not alone. Today I want to share with you three shows that I have dropped from my DVR so far this season. Glee – When this show began I was absolutely enthralled with it. Since I had been in a group similar to New Directions when I was in high school, the show spoke to me. I enjoyed the songs and the dancing. Except for Survivor and The Amazing Race, I have virtually no use for reality television. I don’t watch it and by design I know very little about it. I don’t care about anyone named Kardashian, people that drive trucks or hillbillies that fish with their hands. However, I have determined that there are several reality ideas I have in my head that I would watch if they actually aired. So take a look at my thoughts for reality television shows and let me know if you’d watch any of them. Chelsea & Angie – Two of the sexiest and most beautiful Survivor contestants of all time, Chelsea Meissner and Angie Layton, move in to a beach house together. They spend their days and nights wearing bikinis and doing normal, everyday things. Sometimes they read the phone book aloud and they often run in slow motion on the beach. It's that time of year again my friends.  The new shows will be arriving very soon and due to a vigorous summer schedule Sir Griffin is behind in his previews.  But fear not TV & Burger fans as it is finally time to begin.  We start with ABC. 666 Park Avenue - This is a show about a couple who move into a Manhattan building and learn that it just might be possessed by a demonic force .   The show  stars Terry O'Quinn from Lost and Vanessa Williams as the building's owner and his beautiful wife.  Also starring is Rachael Taylor and Dave Annable as the aforementioned young couple.  This show looks terrific.  Terry O'Quinn has long been one of my favorite actors and any show that has demonic forces will always pique my interest.  Chances of me watching: 100%. I’d like to take this opportunity today to announce a new occasional series here at TV & Burgers.  Starting soon (which means whenever I feel like it and get around to it) I will be taking a nostalgic look back at some of my favorite shows from when I was just a kid.  In the days before Sir Griffin became an international sensation, he spent many a day sitting in front of the TV, mostly because sitting behind the TV was kind of pointless.  You could hear it, but that was about it.  Due to the fact that I spent countless hours watching TV I feel a certain obligation to my audience to share with you some of the shows that are long gone, yet bring back fond memories. Recently I was invited to attend an advance screening of the premiere episode of Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23.  The show will make its debut in April on ABC and frankly I am not sure what they will ultimately call it.  The promos they are running now replace Bitch with B, but sometimes it is often referred to as just Apartment 23.  ABC already has the god awful Good Christian Bitches, which they just call GCB, so it is unlikely they will keep the “bitch” in the title.  While I will not reveal any spoilers of the premiere I would like to tell you a little about the show and my opinion.  After all, that’s why I was selected to see it in the first place.  The Bitch in question is played by Krysten Ritter .  She is a beautiful and talented actress and former model that you have probably seen before, but may not know her name.  Krysten may be best known for playing the sarcastic sidekick to the main protagonists in films such as ...
