Survivor Redemption Island: Season Finale

It’s not particularly difficult to sum up this season of Survivor. It was Rob’s game from the beginning. While Russell came in with a giant target on his back and was instantly hated by most everyone, Rob came in like the beloved hero and savior and walked away with it all. I can’t say I wanted Rob to win, but if you go by who played the best then Rob was the obvious choice.

On Redemption Island we had our inhabitants preparing for their final challenge to get back into the game while at the same time reminiscing about their days on RI. You’d think it was the Ritz the way they were talking about it. Even Matt had learned to love it after spending a record 29 days out there. I guess Jesus told him he’d better love it.

The final challenge in the RI arena was one of balance and endurance. Matt, Grant, Mike and Andrea had to use a foot to balance an urn on the end of a board. Kind of like holding a seesaw level for an extended period of time. Unfortunately for Matt all that time on RI amounted to just a spot on the jury. Andrea claimed victory and it seemed almost effortless for her. So Andrea was back in the game, but there was no way it would last very long.

Andrea did her best to convince Natalie and Ashley that the three of them had to band together and create a women’s alliance to take them all to the end, but since Rob was against that Natalie would not budge and neither would Ashley. For the record Natalie and Ashley claimed at the reunion show they knew Rob had the hidden immunity idol. Since this was the last night at TC that it could be played that it was inevitable that he’d play it. Okay, fine, but Phillip did not have an idol. Why not vote for him? Think ladies, if you’d have voted off Phillip than you’d have the three of you in the final four with Rob. All it would take is a victory in the final immunity challenge (which Ashley almost had) and Rob is gone too. Even if Rob wins two of you are still in the finals and not just one. I think Natalie was so young and so naïve that she probably did not go to the bathroom without first checking with Rob.

So when Ashley won the immunity challenge (which consisted of nothing more than walking on a beam, untying some bags and counting to 100) the stage was set for the women to have their coup, but it never happened. Andrea was quickly voted out and sent to join the jury.

The final immunity challenge was a bit more complicated, which was just another way of saying that Natalie and Phillip had virtually no chance of winning. Players would have to collect bags of puzzle pieces from four different stations within a maze and then climb to the top of a pyramid and solve the puzzle. Rob and Ashley made their way to the top of the pyramid while Natalie looked as confused as ever until Jeff finally told her she was hopelessly out of it. Rob inexplicably suggested he and Ashley work together to solve the puzzle which makes no sense whatsoever, but ultimately it did not matter as Rob won and in essence guaranteed himself victory. But he still wasn’t done with his master manipulations.

Back at camp he promised Ashley and Natalie that he’d vote out Phillip and take them to the final three. Of course he told Phillip and Natalie to vote out Ashley. Natalie was upset and did not want to vote against her new bestie. Rob convinced her by telling her that Ashley may have formed some sort of bond with the former Zapatera and thus may be able to win. This should have meant nothing to Natalie because she should have had some idea that her chances of winning were zero, but for some reason she bought into it just like she did with everything else Rob told her. We still had a chance for some girl power to show up at TC if Natalie and Ashley would have banded together. They could have forged a 2-2 tie between Ashley and Phillip. But no, there was no drama and the lovely Ashley was voted out.

So the final three consisted of Rob, the master, Phillip, the deranged lunatic, and Natalie, the gullible child. The only thing left before heading to TC was the walk of shame when each person would have to see the torch of each person voted out and then burn them. But then they just showed up at TC. How bizarre. Were they merciful and decided to just not show it to us or did they skip it altogether? It did not matter as that has always been one of my least favorite things on this show and I was happy to have missed it.

Phillip walked in to TC wearing a red blanket and his feather, apparently still haunted by the spirit of Jessum Harry. I think everyone on the jury got a big kick out of how stupid he looked. Based on Rob’s advice Natalie and Phillip spent their time that they were supposed to use to convince the jury to vote for them and instead spent it praising Rob. I could almost see the strings on Natalie.

One by one the jury members got up to ask questions or speak their peace. David got up and implored everyone to vote for Rob. Julie said they should all be ashamed at the way they behaved. Steve apparently still thought Phillip was a douche and on and on. When it was time to vote no one even considered Natalie and Ralph voted for someone named “Phile”. No exactly sure who Phile was, but I am sure he must have played a good game for Ralph to have voted for him. Everyone else voted for Rob and million bucks was his.

At the reunion show we found out a few things:

• Natalie and Ashley are incredibly hot and sexy. Let’s get a reality show with just these two where they live in a house and lay around by the pool all day. Bonus points if they begin a torrid love affair with each other.
• Grant is still mad at Rob for blindsiding him despite the fact that Rob did have a valid point in doing so. Grant was well liked and great in challenges so he could have easily stole this victory away.
• Russell is still pissed and has unfortunately backed down on his decision to never play the game again. I do hope Jeff loses his number.
• Did I mention how hot Natalie and Ashley looked?
• Jeff apparently had completely forgotten about half a dozen of this season’s players as they were never asked a question or even acknowledged.
• Mike is a good guy and deserves to play this game again.
• Phillip is still an ass and does not.
• Phillip was indeed a federal agent, though I still do not believe it. However he does look much less creepy now.
• Jessum Harry was not there.
• Amber is still a very attractive woman.
• Ashley and Natalie looked completely amazing and blazingly hot. They clean up well. They should have kissed.
• David asked Carolina, who lasted all of three days on Survivor Tocantins, to marry him. She said yes albeit it was a little uncomfortable there for a minute.
• Redemption Island will be back again next season as well as two more former contestants with something to prove. Who will it be? No idea, but if it was up to me it would be Ashley and Natalie.
• Seriously though it will likely be two more polarizing people such as Coach, Phillip or Sugar.

So another season is in the books and while I certainly do have fun writing up these blogs I cannot say that I will continue to do so again next season. It will depend on the cast I guess and whether I feel the need to do so. Of course if there is a reality show coming up called Natalie and Ashley in their House of Love I will definitely blog on that one.
