Survivor Nicaragua: A Champion is Crowned
Good day my friends,
I must say that I have loved each and every season of Survivor so far. To me there has never been a bad season. Oh sure we have had bad episodes here and there and the occasionally dull episode where virtually nothing happens, but each season to me has been a gem to be cherished. After all, this cannot last forever.
So it was with both excitement and hesitation that I approached last night’s finale. Excited to see how it ended and hesitant to allow it to end because I knew it would be a while before a new episode. I was also hesitant to have to sit through the dreaded tribute to the fallen comrades. I’d rather the producers spend some more time on something else (like maybe a wet t-shirt contest with Kelly as the only contestant) because that always seems to be the low point of each season.
The season came to an end with Fabio playing his A game. The first challenge of the night was to answer some fairly simple trivia questions and then complete a puzzle of the show logo. After an early mistake, Fabio was able to come from behind and claim the immunity. The alliance of Holly, Sash & Chase had no problem with that as they just voted out Dan instead. Pretty simple to handle that and a pretty obvious choice. I mean, even during the challenge Jeff completely ignored Dan like he was not even there competing. But Dan got angry despite the fact that he stayed in the game much longer than he ever deserved to be. Regardless, the invalid was gone and now we had the final four.
This is when it became time for the inevitable tribute to the fallen. Well, not really fallen as they are all still alive, but gone nonetheless. After they symbolically burned up the fallen they proceeded to the last challenge which I found to be incredibly disappointing. They had to hold a sword in one hand and balance coins on the handle as Jeff called out the coin sizes they had to use. Although the coin stacks were higher than I ever expected them to be I just did not care for this challenge. It has always been a staple of Survivor for the final challenge to be one of endurance. But I want an endurance challenge that is completely physically and mentally draining. I don’t know how long the coin challenge lasted in real time (maybe 20 minutes?), but I like those challenges that take hours where they have to stand on a block of wood on top of a pole or something like that. Make them really earn it. It ultimately came down to Sash and Fabio and frankly I have no idea how Fabio kept those coins balanced. They looked as if they would topple any second, but they did not. Sash lost control; Fabio won immunity and thus all the power and a spot in the final three.
Everyone seemed to be making a case back at camp to stay in the game. Sash out and out lied to Fabio and Fabio just laughed at him. Holly and Chase were honest, but was that really the right strategy? In the end though, Fabio made the best strategic move by voting out Holly. It seemed to me that Holly was the only genuine competition for the big prize and by eliminating her Fabio would go up against Sash and Chase for the million bucks. So you have Skeleton Sash, the liar and Chase who seemed to be more clueless as the game went on. Who would the jury choose?
As the final three faced the jury they each stated their case before getting grilled by each jury member. I was looking forward to my lovely Kelly and as marvelous as she looked, she failed miserably in the attack/ask a question department. I have no idea what she was trying to say, but it just came off as useless. Dan attacked again, Marty invented his own trophy for dumb people and Jane just looked plain scary. When asked what he would do with the money Fabio said he would take care of his mom, which not only brought him to tears, but also most of the jury including Benry for crying out loud. Fabio had the jury in the palm of his hand. The money was his and it was just a formality. However, we were treated to the sight of Kelly walking over to cast her vote and an incredible camera shot from above that highlighted her amazing breasts. I had to rewind and watch that a few times. It was my favorite part of this season.
Well, as it turns out the formality was very necessary. While Sash failed to receive even one vote, Chase took a 4-2 lead as Jeff read the votes. Then it was showdown time as it became tied 4-4. One last vote in the can and who was it for? Jeff was very dramatic as he announced it to be Fabio, now the youngest Survivor winner ever. Fabio went and gave his family hugs and the audience was pleased.
The reunion show was good too and it showed us a few things about our castaways. Here are some highlights:
• Jeff asked Fabio a question and I have no idea what Fabio was trying to say. Jeff never asked Fabio anything else.
• Chase has moved toNashville and is attempting to become a singer/songwriter. Great, the world really needs another country music singer.
•Shannon is still an ass.
• Holly bought Dan some cowboy boots to replace the shoes she sunk. How sweet.
• Brenda looked as sexy as I have ever seen her.
• Kelly was ignored all night long. Very typical of this season. Please don’t ignore the hot girls in future seasons.
• Boston Rob and Amber have had baby #2.
• Survivor saved Jimmy Johnson’s life when they discovered blocked arteries when he had his physical. Pretty cool.
• Some parents complained about NaOnka teaching their kids. Wow, what a shocker!
• Jane won $100,000.00 for being the fan favorite.
Jeff then gave us a sneak peek on the next season. It was filmed last summer as well and contains a twist known asRedemption Island where those voted off go to an island to live alone and could possibly make it back into the game. Not sure if I like this twist, but I am optimistic. Until then my friends…
